D\u00e8s le texte d\u00e9grossit, j’avais une m\u00e9lodie chant\u00e9e a capela, fa\u00e7on chant de travail (holler) et puis j’ai voulu lui tordre le cou pour lui donner un c\u00f4t\u00e9 ballade Rhythm & Blues. Mais \u00e7a ne fonctionnait pas bien ; en plus de la tonalit\u00e9 un peu haute parce-que je voulais utiliser un accord particulier. Puis je suis revenu \u00e0 l’id\u00e9e de d\u00e9part et, en cherchant son expression en accords, que j’ai simplifi\u00e9 \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame pour n’avoir plus que 2 accords dans tout le morceau. J’ai fait deux voix, une grave et une plus haute, et ne pouvant me d\u00e9cider \u00e0 choisir, j’ai m\u00eal\u00e9 les deux. 2 accords, 2 voix, pour moi \u00e7a colle. En bonus l’adaptation fran\u00e7aise faite pour Christophe, dont j’esp\u00e8re la version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the three murder ballads I wrote for my friend Christophe Adam. Once I had shaped up the lyrics a bit, I came up with an a capella tune, in the style of holler worksongs, then I decided to twist its neck and make it sound more like a rhythm & blues ballad. But it didn\u2019t really work – beside the pitch which is a bit too high because I wanted to use a specific chord. So I went back to my original idea and – while looking for the right expression with chords – I simplified it as much as I could to end up with no more than 2 chords throughout the whole song. I did two voices, a low one and a higher one, and as I couldn\u2019t make my mind up, I blended the two of them. 2 chords, 2 voices, to me it works. As a bonus the French version I did for Christophe, whose version I\u2019m looking forward to<\/p>\n\n\n\n
